SIPA Joins Privia Quality Network to Achieve the Triple Aim

New Partnership reinforces that successful ACOs need state of the art technology, great support teams, and high quality doctors working together

This week, Privia Health announced a monumental partnership with Shenandoah Independent Practice Association (SIPA), making Privia the largest Accountable Care Organization (ACO) and Clinically Integrated Network of Independent Physicians in the Mid-Atlantic, with over 1,000 providers. SIPA is a clinically integrated independent physician network, which is comprised of over 400+ physicians, currently serving patients in northern and western Virginia.

Forming a large and successful ACO requires state of the art technology, a great support team, and high quality doctors working together. With these factors aligned in an organization (like Privia Quality Network), physicians are able to achieve the “triple aim” goals of improved patient experience, improved quality of care, and decreased cost of care to get paid more for the quality care they provide and bend the cost curve.

ACO’s are a common point of conversation in a post Affordable Care Act world. Why are they so important to the health delivery system?  These organizations are designed  to ‘ensure that patients get the right care at the right time, while avoiding unnecessary duplication of services and preventing medical errors’. ACO’s like Privia Quality Network with robust  population health programs  enable a physician led delivery system where the primary focus is on patient’s satisfaction,  access to care, effectively managing chronic disease, preventative care and ultimately improving the health of a whole population.

The goal of a successful ACO is not only improving patient care, but also reducing the cost of healthcare. Through shared savings programs, by spending health dollars more effectively payers and physicians are able to share in the savings established by high quality care. In fact, by pushing practices and payers towards ACO’s and the Shared Savings Program, the Congressional Budget Office expects to save 5 billion between 2010 and 2019.

Why did SIPA, a well known medical group of primary care physicians and specialists in the Shenandoah region, choose to partner with Privia? Co-President Dr. Curtis Winter explained: “To succeed in this new era, physician organizations need access to sophisticated resources, and to the capital necessary to fund them. Privia brings considerable expertise and resources to the table with its population health technology, care teams, performance infrastructure, workflow design and payer relationships.”
